FPE welcomes the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) Bhutan and Philippines Officials
Posted on September 19, 2017The Biodiversity Financing Initiative (BIOFIN) Bhutan conducted a “south-to-south” learning visit in the Philippines, meeting with the Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE) on September 6, 2017
On September 6, 2017, FPE welcomed officials from the BIOFIN Bhutan and Philippines as part of BIOFIN’s “south-to-south” learning visit in the Philippines. The learning mission aimed to develop strategies and financial plans of BIOFIN to mobilize resources for the implementation of the respective countries’ Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.
Mr. Oliver Agoncillo, FPE Executive Director, led the discussion-sharing on the history of the Foundation and how it manages its endowment fund, which was a result of the first Debt-for-Nature Swap in the Philippines. FPE also presented its accomplishments for the last 25 years in terms of supporting conservation actions in the Philippines.
With the visit, FPE and BIOFIN Philippines agreed to explore possibilities to work together in advancing biodiversity conservation taking off from the results of the BIOFIN initiatives.
BIOFIN is a global project directly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which aims to contribute to closing the global financial gap for biodiversity by identifying, accessing, combining, and sequencing sources of funding to meet national needs.
