On February 21, 2018, the Department of Justice (DoJ) filed a petition with the Regional Trial Court that seeks to declare the CPP and NPA “as a terrorist and outlawed organizations, associations, and/or group of persons” under the Human Security Act of 20017 (Republic Act 9372) also known as the Anti-Terrorism law. Integral to the petition is a list of more than 600 names and aliases that the DoJ alleges to be known officers and members of the CPP and NPA.

 

Included in the list are Indigenous Peoples and human rights advocates belonging to legitimate organizations including Ms. Beverly Longid, FPE Trustee, who is also global coordinator of the International Indigenous Peoples Movement for Self-Determination and Liberation (IPMSDL) and co-chair of the CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness (CPDE). As an FPE Trustee, she has never been involved or incited acts of terrorism or coerced any member of the Foundation or our partner organizations to overthrow the government.

The Foundation is deeply concerned over the inclusion of Ms. Longid in the alleged terrorist list as this has put at risk her safety and security including that of her family, loved ones and colleagues.

 

We therefore call on the Government through the Department of Justice to:
