As such, the area has been subjected to resource degradation, further spurred by the generally poor economic and socio-political conditions of the province, as well as by extreme weather conditions.

Biogeographic Features

  • Dinagat Island is one of the major islands in the province of Surigao del Norte.

  • It has a rugged topograohy along the eastern portion and dominated by a number of peaks including Mount Cambinlow (940 meters above sea level), Mount Redondo (1020 masl), Mount Palhi (770 masl) and Mount Tristan (616 masl)

Flora

  • The area is famous for its mettalurgical-grid chromites, Philippine ironwood (locally knwon as "magkono" or "mancono")

Fauna

  • It is known for its rich fishing grounds.

Livelihood Resources

  • Majority of the households depend on farming, fishing and mining.
