Visayas Regional Consultation with Civil Society Organizations Climate Change Initiatives and Project Portfolio Development for the Green Climate Fund

The Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE) is gearing up its accreditation as the first civil society organization (CSO) Direct Access Entity (DAE) for the Green Climate Fund (GCF). To achieve this, the Foundation has been conducting a series of national and regional consultations around the Philippines since March 2019. The activities aim to consolidate local climate change initiatives and most importantly – to develop a Project Portfolio for the GCF.

The Visayas Regional Consultation with Civil Society Organizations is the third leg in the series. The consultation was conducted on September 11-12, 2019 at Big Hotel, Mandaue City, Cebu. It was attended by at least 48 participants representing a total of 45 CSOs, People’sOrganizations and the academe all over Visayas region. The selection of participating organizations was according to their experiences in biodiversity conservation and sustainabledevelopment (BCSD), climate change adaptation and mitigation (CCAM) and disaster risk reduction management (DRRM). The consultation crafted three Project Descriptions that primarily identified water as the common priority among the regions.

I. People-led climate innovation for resilient Western Visayas

II. Ensuring sustainable and resilient Visayan ecosystems and communities from
climate hazards

III. Building resilient coastal and terrestrial ecosystems in Eastern Visayas Region:
Enhancing community resiliency through effective conservation and protection
of ridge to reef ecosystems
